The US defeated Belgium in the fourth Quidditch World Cup’s final to clinch their third title. Twenty-nine teams participated in 2018 Quidditch World Cup. The game is similar to that which we saw in one of JK Rowling’s work Harry Potter where the players run around with broomsticks between their legs and engage in a full-contact contest.

Quidditch is a sport of two teams of seven players each mounted on broomsticks played on a hockey rink-sized pitch. As mentioned above the idea is a reflection of JK Rowling’s Harry Potter where you see the similar game was played by Harry during school competitions at Hogward’s. To distinguish Quidditch from the fictional game, which involved magical factors such as the flying broomsticks and enchanted balls, it is referred to as Muggle Quidditch. Muggle was described as a person who does not have magical powers in the fictional story.

The ground is rectangular with round corners whose dimensions are 55m * 33m with three hoops of varying heights at either end. The game is new to the world it was established in 2005 and until now is limited to a few countries. The ultimate goal is to have more points than the other team by the time the snitch, a tennis ball inside a long sock hanging from the shorts of an impartial official dressed in yellow, is caught. The rules of the game are made by IQA, and events are either organized by IQA or nation’s governing body.

A team is credited with 10 points when any of the chasers or keepers get the quaffle ( a slightly deflated volleyball), into one of three opposing hoops. To stop the other team from scoring the chasers and keepers of the other team use their bludgers (dodgeballs), the players of the opposite team need to tackle each other for scoring points. Once a player is hit by an opposing bludger, that player must dismount their broom, drop any ball being held, and return to and touch their hoops before being allowed back into play. Once the snitch is caught by one of the seekers, the game ends and the team is awarded 30 points.

A team should have 7 minimum and maximum of 21 players, whereas six players are on the field, those being the two beaters, three chasers, and one keeper. Besides the seeker who is off field, the six players are abide to follow a gender rule which states that among the six players, maximum four of them should be of the same gender. This is the rule which makes the game different from other games and creating a co-ed environment in the field and an open community to those who do not identify with the gender binary. The match last for about 30-40 minutes but the time is extended if after the snitch catch the score levels. An extended time of 5 minutes is allotted or when the snitch is legally caught the game ends
